Voilah! French Festival returns to bring Paris to Singapore

The annual Voilah! French Festival is back, and this time, it’s bringing France’s most famous region to Singapore.

Taking place from 8 April to 21 May across several locations on the island, this year’s festivities revolve around the theme ‘Imagination and Innovation’, with a spotlight on the capital, Paris.

Visitors can expect to indulge in French cuisine and be entertained by street art performances, exhibitions and film screenings.

Here are some highlights you can look forward to:

Voilah! Gourmet Picnic

You don’t have to go to France to enjoy French food. Indulge in specially-crafted Gourmet Picnic baskets while getting entertained by unique performances put up for the festival.

Urbanfolk exhibition by Philippe Diversy and Bob Lee

Urbanfolk is an exhibition by Singaporean photographer Bob Lee and French graphic designer and photographer Philippe Diversy. The exhibition showcases the photographers’ fascination with architecture in Singapore and France from the 1960s to late 70s, as these heritage buildings are consumed by the development of modern cities.

Pictures of Imagination – A Journey in Jules Verne’s world

When: 11 April to 31 May
Where: “Travel & Heritage” exhibition at The Fullerton Hotel East Garden Foyer Gallery; “City & Ocean” exhibition at Alliance Francaise (13 April – 31 May)

Discover the world of French novelist Jules Verne – author of ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’, ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea’ and ‘Around the World in Eighty Days’ – through the eyes of graphic novel artists from the Angouleme International Comics Festival. The exhibition is presented in two sequences, with the “Travel & Heritage” exhibition from 12 April to 31 May, and the “City & Ocean” exhibition from 13 April to 31 May.

If you’re a fan of French cinema, be sure to catch screenings of Cannes Palmes d’Or Award-winning films such as Laurent Cantet’s ‘Entre les murs’, Michael Haneke’s ‘Amour’, Jacques Audiard’s ‘Dheepan’ at The Projector and Abdellatif Kechiche’s ‘Blue is the Warmest Colour’ at The Projector from 6 to 21 May.
