Vivian Lai learns to let go of anger towards ex-husband

19 Mar – Although everything is fine between them now, Hong Kong singer Vivian Lai admitted that she originally had some resentments against her ex-husband Ricky Tsang following their divorce in 2014, as reported on Mingpao.

The singer married Goldlion CEO Ricky Tsang during the peak of her career in 2002. She decided to leave showbiz because Tsang didn't want her to stay, and switched to insurance instead.

The two became parents to two children and were married for 12 years before Vivian decided to leave him following reports of several extra-marital affairs on his part. She also decided to bring up her children singlehandedly without seeking alimony from her ex-husband after the divorce.

"I think it is natural for one, upon the end of their marriage, to have some resentments. You feel that you are right and the other person is wrong," she said.

But in the end, Vivian shared that it was fellow singers Winnie Lau and Lee Kwok Cheung who enlightened her.

"Winnie told me, "You have to look at it from both sides. You can't say you're the only person who is right. Don't you think that sometimes you can be too stubborn?" I thought that that maybe I was. Or maybe sometimes you didn't mean to do it, but the person who listens think that [you're dissing him]. But I never thought about his feelings," she said.

Vivian said that she then decided to make peace with her ex-husband for the sake of their children.
