Vision Films Allies With Sony Pictures Home Entertainment

Family movie specialist Vision Films has signed a distribution deal with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment for its new releases in the United States and Canada, Variety has learned exclusively.

Lise Romanoff, managing director/CEO of Vision Films, said, “Our distribution agreement will be instrumental in the growth of our home entertainment division, further ensuring our role as one of the premier providers of independent films in the marketplace.”

The first title covered by the alliance is political satire “The Congressman,” which will be released first by RedBox on Aug. 9 and then by SPHE. The film is directed by Jared Martin and former congressman Robert Mrazek, and stars Treat Williams, George Hamilton, Elizabeth Marvel and Ryan Merriman in a story of sabotage, media manipulation and patriotism.

Mrazek served five terms as a Democratic congressman from New York between 1983 and 1993.

The thriller “Desiree,” based on the cult novel “Dermaphoria” by Craig Clevenger, is set to be released Sept. 27 and centers on a chemist caught in a cat-and-mouse game after creating a recreational drug that the syndicate desires. The cast includes Ron Perlman and Walton Goggins.

The deal also covers the comedy “Sam,” the directorial debut of Nicholas Brooks with his father Mel Brooks exec producing the story of a womanizer who must learn how to value women by mysteriously becoming one himself. Natalie Knepp, Sean Kleier, Morgan Fairchild and Stacy Keach star; the film will be available in October across all DVD and VOD platforms.

Other titles include “The Standoff,” starring Olivia Holt, Ryan McCartan, Alex Wolf, McKaley Miller and YouTube personalities Vanessa & Veronica Merrill; “The Hybrid Family, in which two young siblings are vampire-witch hybrids, starring Paul Sorvino, Carolyn Hennesy and Mojean Aria; and sea monster story “Nessie & Me,” which stars Michael Pare and Toni Hudson.

The deal also covers holiday titles “A Doggone Christmas,” which stars Dominique Swain, Rib Hillis, Lauren Parkinson and introduces YouTube star “Just Jesse,” a Jack Russell Terrier with 17 million fans; and “A Miracle On Christmas Lake,” Siobhan Williams and Will Sasso.

“Vision Films has an eye towards acquiring top-notch independent feature films that entertain and inspire audiences,” Romanoff said. “Good old fashioned feel-good movies will never go out of style.”
