The new trailer for kaiju sequel Godzilla: King of the Monsters arrived this week, just in time for San Diego Comic-Con.
And while it really didn’t reveal very much at all, it arguably revealed more than it intended.
It finds Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown sat at a military-looking communications console receiving a seemingly disturbing message.
Cutting to a screen with the slogan ‘Reach Monarch’ (and an @monarchsciences Twitter account), it was evidently hoping to whip up some viral marketing hype.
But it may receive some rather more unwanted scrutiny, thanks to the cameraman and camera clearly visible to the left hand of the screen.
Many films over the years have featured crew-members in shot, but to manage such a feat in a movie’s very first teaser is quite the achievement.
If you’re wondering what or who ‘Monarch’ is, the official synopsis can enlighten you.
“The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species – thought to be mere myths – rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.”
Along with all those monsters, the sequel to 2014’s reboot also stars Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance and Ken Watanabe.
It’s unleashed on May 31, 2019.
