New villain revealed for "Venom"

Tom Hardy's Venom is not the only baddie in the upcoming "Spider-Man" spinoff

Tom Hardy's Venom will be going up against a mass murdering serial killer.

22 Jun – While Venom is already considered the big bad meanie in the upcoming "Spider-Man" spinoff, "Venom", the eponymous anti-hero is set to face off against another baddie in the movie.

Carnage, another major enemy of Spidey, will reportedly be the villain in "Venom", according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Like Venom, the character is an alien Symbiote. Unlike Venom, whose human alter ego Eddie Brock is just a journalist, Carnage's human alter ego is a mass murdering serial killer called Cletus Kasady, who first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #344.

There's no word yet on who will be playing Carnage opposite of Tom Hardy as Venom.

Currently, the movie is planned for release on the big screen in October 2018.

Meanwhile, also in the Sony Spidey universe, the untitled animated "Spider-Man" movie is moving forward with Oscar winner Mahershala Ali joining in to voice Aaron Davis, Miles Morales's uncle a.k.a. the Prowler.

Also part of the cast are Shameik Moore as the titular Miles Morales, Brian Tyree Henry as Miles' father Jefferson Davis and Liev Schreiber in a mystery villain role.

The movie is directed by Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey from a screenplay by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who after their sudden departure from the Han Solo spinoff project, may have more time to focus on animated Spidey now.

The untitled animated "Spider-Man" movie is also scheduled to be released in 2018, two months after "Venom".
