Vietnam chooses 'Yellow Flowers' as its Oscar contender
Vietnam has added its selection to the growing list of films contending for a foreign-language Oscar, with "Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass," reports Variety.
The coming-of-age story, directed by Vietnamese-American Victor Vu, is based on a bestselling novel by Nguyen Nhat Anh. In Vietnam, the film has grossed around $3.5 million since its release last October.
This will be just the sixth time that Vietnam has submitted a film to the Academy Awards' foreign language category.
A shortlist of the foreign language nominees will be announced on January 17, 2017, with the final five nominees revealed on January 24, 2017.
The 89th Academy Awards will take place on February 26, 2017.
