Video of McDonald’s Ramadan ad praised for heartwarming message

McDonald’s Singapore Ramadan advertisement has been receiving kudos for depicting one of its delivery riders who is working and showing acts of kindness to customers and strangers on the road during the fasting month.

The video, which was posted last week, shows the rider carrying out his meal deliveries and wearing a smile despite fatigue setting in as the day wears on.

At one point, he climbs the stairs to deliver a meal to a customer as the lift is out of order.

He also helps a motorist to restart his stalled car by pushing it and another motorist by guiding him on a road direction.

A colleague of his is also seen offering him a Chicken Nugget from McDonald’s Happy Sharing Box but he declines as he is fasting.

During his final delivery to a house, an elderly customer receives a Happy Sharing Box from him. The customer notices that the time is 7.08pm and realises it is time for the rider to break fast. The customers offers him his Happy Sharing Box, and he breaks into a smile when he sees the time on his mobile phone. The ad ends with the message, “Share the Spirit of Ramadan”.

The video has tugged heartstrings around the world, with even US media company Buzzfeed reporting about the ad.

Many netizens have given positive comments, with some saying that there should be more of such touching videos. One Facebook user said, “A very wonderful ad!!! Thanks for embracing the cultural diversity of Singapore!!!”.

Since the video was posted by McDonald’s on 14 May, it has drawn more than 450,000 views and shared almost 600 times as of Wednesday evening.
