Having spent more than two decades in the public eye, Victoria Beckham has always appeared to radiate confidence.

But the fashion designer, 46, has revealed her penchant for outfits that were “tight” and “fitted”, earlier on in her fame, was a “sign of insecurity”.

In an interview with The Guardian, the former pop star said: “I used to wear lots of structured dresses with corsetry, and I do still have some of those dresses, but my personal style has become more relaxed.

“Looking back, I guess it was a sign of insecurity that I would always wear clothes that were very tight, very fitted.”

The Spice Girl has favoured looser silhouettes in recent years, which has been reflected in her catwalk shows, but she was once famously a fan of form-fitted Hervé Léger and Roland Mouret dresses as well as corset-style ensembles.

Victoria made the comment in response to a question put to her, via the paper, by a university fashion student which read: “Has there ever been a time when you felt confused about your personal style?”

The mum-of-four added that while she worked with stylists when she was part of the iconic girl group, from 1994 to 2000, she has never had one in her personal life.

She also told the publication how she has embraced a more relaxed way of dressing during the coronavirus lockdown at her home in the Cotswolds.

Victoria explained: “I’d love to say my lockdown look has been all about a vintage kaftan, but that’s not the case. I still get up early and exercise every day, then I dress for work and for comfort.

“A pair of old jeans, a T-shirt or a jumper. I’m not quite at the elasticated waistband stage yet – I still want to feel good about myself.

“We’ve been going out on country walks every day, so the only shoes I wear are an old pair of trainers.

“It’s so nice just to do things with the family and not think too much about getting dressed. So, definitely no heels.”

The star’s comments come as she gave fans a glimpse of her working from home look on Instagram recently.

Victoria could be seen wearing a loose shirt, denim shorts and a pair of slippers bearing a smiley face logo.

Captioning a snap of her typing on her laptop in her kitchen, she wrote: “My warm weather working from home wardrobe! Shorts and slippers. The dream.”

Her fans praised the dressed-down look, with one commenting: “Looking so relaxed and natural.”

Another shared, “the best dress code”, and a third added, “casual elegance”.
