18 Apr – Veteran actress Gloria Sevilla has recently passed away.
The news was revealed by son Dandin Ranillo, who expressed, "It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Gloria Sevilla, the Queen of Visayan Movies, in Oakland, California at 11 am, [April 16, 2022]. She died peacefully in her sleep," he said.
"We appreciate all those praying for the repose of her soul. Thank you," he added.
Making her debut when she was only 14, Gloria had acted in a number of Visayan-made films since the 1950s, including "Leonora", "Pailub Lang", and "Badlis sa Kinabuhi".
In her matured age, she also appeared in a variety of television dramas, including "Be Careful with My Heart", "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano", and "Asintado".
As for her personal life, Gloria tied the knot with actor Mat Ranillo Jr., though it ended tragically with the latter's death in 1969 in a plane crash. Her second husband, actor-turned-diplomat Amado Cortez passed away in 2003.
The actress had also won various accolades throughout her career, including Gawad Urian's Best Supporting Actress for "Maestra" and FAMAS' Best Actress for "Badlis Sa Kinabuhi" and "Gimingaw Ako".
She was also honoured with Gawad Urian's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019 and an Icon Awards from The EDDYS in 2021.
