"Verdict" is Philippine's entry for the 2019 Oscars

20 Sep – The Max Eigenmann-starrer, "Verdict" will be representing the Philippines in vying for the 2019 Academy Awards' Best Foreign Language Film.

As reported on Rappler, the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), posted on social media, "We are pleased to announce that the movie Verdict, produced by CenterStage Productions, has been chosen as the official Philippine Film Entry to the International Feature Film (formerly Foreign Language Film) Category for the 92nd Annual Academy Awards or The Oscars."

"Congratulations and best of luck to the producers of the movie," it added.

"Verdict" previously won Jury Prize at the Orizzonti competition of the Venice Film Festival 2019, and was screened at the Toronto Film Festival and Busan Film Festival.

The movie stars Eigenmann as Joy, a woman who files a domestic abuse case against her husband Dante (Kristoffer King).

It is noted that no Filipino movie has ever made it to the top five of the Foreign Language Film category.
