You can now buy a vegan Creme Egg in the run-up to Easter.

The dairy and gluten-free take on the classic Cadbury’s Creme Egg is available to buy online from vegan chocolatier, Mummy Meagz.

Posting to Twitter, the Yorkshire-based company announced their latest chocolate product, quipping: “MOOOve over Cadbury’s”.

Arriving wrapped in metallic paper and in a green “egg box”, the vegan eggs are made from sugar, cocoa mass, cocoa butter and sunflower lecithins.

While some might be sceptical as to whether this vegan variety can live up to the chocolate legend that is a Cadbury’s Creme Egg, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. According to the company’s founder, Megan Boyle, they are “as good as, if not better than, the dairy alternatives”.

“We didn’t see why people should miss out on an indulgent Easter treat just because of their ethical lifestyle choices,” Boyle told Press Association.

Mummy Meagz’s Rocky Road bars were last year featured on ‘Good Morning Britain’, with host Piers Morgan describing them as tasteless”.

However, Morgan will not be receiving any this year due to limited supplies, according to Boyle.

She said: “We did consider sending Piers and his underlings a box. But they are like gold dust at the moment and we just can’t spare any!”

As a vegan, Boyle strives to make products the new “normal”.

“Vegans don’t want to eat any products derived from any animal. To us, a ‘regular’ cream egg isn’t normal, as we don’t think drinking milk from a cow is normal!

“We’d rather eat something that is made 100% from plants, but tastes as good as, if not better than, the dairy alternatives.”

Vegan alternatives have dominated headlines this yeaar, with everything from Gregg’s meat-free sausage rolls to Youngs Pubs’ vegan cauliflower “steak” deal.
