Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler split after 8 years, according to reports

Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler have gone their separate ways, according to multiple reports.

Representatives for the actors did not immediately return requests for comment.

The breakup was suspected because the couple hadn’t made a red carpet appearance together in months, and Butler hadn’t appeared on Hudgens’ regular social media posts since Halloween.

The two began dating in 2011, less than a year after she ended a long-term relationship with High School Musical co-star Zac Efron. (In fact, this latest split has some fans calling for Hudgens and Efron to reunite.)

Throughout their relationship, Hudgens and Butler both were open about their love for one another, whether during interviews or on social media. They also were known to cuddle up at Coachella. Even Hudgens’ close friend Ashley Tisdale approved of the coupling.

Butler gushed about his relationship at the July premiere of his Oscar-nominated movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. “It’s hard for me to even put into words what that girl means to me,” he told E! News. “I am so inspired by her everyday and I just love her to my core.”

Hudgens had mentioned that the two had been separated in recent months, as they filmed different projects, and she said the separation was difficult. The longest they’d been apart was four months, she said.

Hudgens is currently working on The Princess Switch: Switched Again, and Butler is soon scheduled to film director Baz Luhrmann’s take on Elvis Presley.

After news of the split broke, the internet was devastated.
