Vandy the Pink has been announced as the first Korean designer to work with Salomon, and he’s making the most of the opportunity by transforming one of the brand’s top models to look like a hamburger.
The Vandy the Pink x Salomon Speedcross 3 takes on the appearance of a fully loaded hamburger, as a white mesh upper gives way to detailing in brown, yellow, red and green. A tasty looking ode to bun, patty, ketchup, mustard, lettuce and tomato doesn’t stop there either, as the insole features a graphic of french fries to complete the meal.
“Salomon has been one of my favorite brands for a while and I’m super grateful for the opportunity to
represent my culture as the first Korean-owned brand they’ve collaborated with,” Junghoon Son, better known as Vandy the Pink, said in a press release. “Working with a brand I admire gives me a sense of pride, knowing I’m contributing to something that people already know and love. I wanted to create something playful and fun for your next trail run but also be stylish enough to wear on the street, the Speedcross 3’s versatility and sophistication made it the perfect foundation for this project.”
The hamburger is a trademark for Vandy the Pink, who dropped just dropped a more literal interpretation of the American staple for a Hamburger Mule earlier this fall. Born in South Korea and based in Virginia, Vandy initially made his name with custom sneakers that have included a clear homage to the Dunk Low with a fry replacing the Swoosh.
In an interview with Complex last year, Vandy says he was inspired to riff on the burger when the billboards for McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s stuck out to him when visiting Times Square for teh first time as a teenager.
To celebrate the collaboration, Salomon is hosting an event at its New York City store in Soho Saturday, November 23, with the sneaker for sale with a complementary co-branded tote bag and crocheted shoe accessory coming with purchase. Burgers will also be provided by 7th Street Burger.
The Vandy the Pink x Salomon Speedcross 3 will otherwise release Friday, November 22, through both parties’ websites, as well as select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $150.
