What exactly does life after “WandaVision” like for Wanda and Vision? The penultimate episode of the series proved this week that yes, there originally was a plan for that. It just wasn’t for life after “WandaVision” – it was for life after Thanos. In the years between “Captain America: Civil War” and “Avengers: Infinity War,” Wanda and Vision really were planning for something resembling happily-ever-after. But after everything we saw this week, is that still even possible? After the uh, revelatory events of episode 8, “Previously On,” and with just one episode left, there are a lot of hurdles in front of them. And it sure looks like WandaVision the couple might be as not-long-for-this-earth as WandaVision the show. First and foremost, Vision’s mortality status is the big question mark. Also Read: 'WandaVision' Just Retconned the MCU in a Really Big Way As we saw late in the episode, after seeing Vision reduced to mere parts by S.W.O.R.D. researchers (more on that in a moment), Wanda says a pained goodbye to his body and leaves for Westview, New Jersey because, as it turns out, Vision bought property for them there. “To grow old in” is the final message Vision left Wanda. They had planned for a future together. That turned out to be the final straw. That’s the piece of the puzzle we’ve been looking for: How and why Wanda created the Hex. As Agatha tells her at the end, it’s pure “chaos magic,” borne out of grief for her true love. Now, obviously, per “Avengers: Endgame,” the Infinity Stones were destroyed, including the Mind Stone that essentially comprised Vision. We assumed this meant that whatever brought Westview Vision to ‘life,’ it wasn’t that. We assumed this meant that whatever brought Westview Vision to ‘life,’ it wasn’t that, which made it likely Westview Vision isn’t even really alive. But then came THAT moment in “Previously On.” You know, where Wanda’s magic basically just exploded a brand new Vision out of her? Most of it was her signature “Red Wiggly Woos,” but there was also some gold in there – which as the episode reminded us several times prior to that moment, was the gold of the Mind Stone. Wanda releases her magic (Disney/Screengrab) Despite what Hayward told Monica Rambeau, Jimmy Woo and Darcy Lewis a few episodes back, it turns out Wanda didn’t actually steal Vision’s corpse from S.W.O.R.D. HQ; she crafted an entirely new one on her own. And while there’s no way to know this for certain just yet, it sure looked like Wanda gave up the power of the Mind Stone to do it. Or is he a real being created by a somehow-reconstituted version of the Mind Stone? Right now we’re leaning toward some form of the latter — he has after all repeatedly demonstrated self awareness and an ability to resist Wanda’s mind control, to the extent that he can even free other residents of Westview from it. And if he’s alive, that means he could die. Again. Remember, whether he’s an illusion or real, he started disintegrating when he left the boundaries of the Hex. That presents the very real possibility that when Wanda finally brings the Westview illusion to an end, Vision will also have to go. And His (third) death would make all of this a moot point. But let’s say he does survive – where does that leave his relationship with Wanda? At the start of “WandaVision” it was clear that Vision was as enamored with his now-wife as ever, albeit a little dazedly. He clearly had questions about things — like what their life was before they moved there, or what exactly it is his employer does — but his love for Wanda? That wasn’t one of those questions. This sitcom reality gave them what they had been searching for for two years prior to Infinity War: time. Time, and peace. In Westview, Wanda and Vision could just be in love, without worrying about saving the world. Also Read: 'WandaVision': Did Marvel Just Bring Back an Infinity Stone? Obviously, things fell apart quickly. Realizing that he had no memory of his life before Westview, Vision began to investigate, before having a near full-on panic attack. “Before what? I can’t remember my life before Westview. I don’t know who I am,” Vision screams at Wanda in episode 5. Vision confronts Wanda (Disney/Screengrab) But that reality – what exactly happened to Vision before Westview – is too painful for Wanda to bear, let alone reveal to him, so she continued to keep him in the dark to preserve the reality she crafted for herself. By episode 6, Vision is outright lying to her so he can find answers himself. Looking back on what we see of their relationship in “Civil War” and “Infinity War,” Vision consistently fought to stay by Wanda’s side and always had this unshakeable faith in her – even after the Lagos incident. The closest he ever got to being cold was the moment where he tells Wanda not to become the monster they fear she is. (Ironically, her response is that she’s unable to control other people’s fear, only her own. In Westview, the opposite seems to be true). We get to see even more of this era during the flashbacks in “Previously On,” in a touching scene set shortly after the events of “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” where Vision reaches out to comfort Wanda, who is still grieving the death of Pietro. Notably, they bond while watching an episode of “the Dick Van Dyke Show,” further establishing why Wanda retreated into a sitcom fantasy in the present day. Now, Vision’s core need for information combined with Wanda’s refusal to ever talk about her grief (which apparently has been a thing since she and Vision began connecting in that flashback) has created a disconnect. That gap is only thrown in sharper relief when he literally says in episode 7 that he feels bad about what he and Wanda have apparently gone through, but it feels like it happened to someone else. And that disconnect is starting to go both ways. Though Wanda saves her husband by expanding the borders of the Hex, she tells her sons the next morning that she can’t control if Vision wants to be home with them, so they shouldn’t worry so much about where he is. Obviously, this is a manifestation of Wanda’s depression; she clearly cares very much that her husband is avoiding her, she just hasn’t found an appropriate way to cope. And really, Vision still cares very much about her. In episode 7, he abruptly stops his “interview” to go to Wanda, bewilderedly saying “What am I doing… I have to get back to my wife.” As Darcy Lewis tells Vision in episode 7, the love he and Wanda have for each other is real. This week, we even got to see its origins, with the memory of Wanda and Vision bonding over her sitcoms triggering her to reveal her journey to S.W.O.R.D. headquarters to retrieve Vision’s body. Wanda and Vision’s relationship was always one of the more tumultuous relationships in Marvel lore. Even in the comics, they had their ups and downs. Their ups and downs are just…more super than most couples. And in that respect, “WandaVision” has faithfully served its source material. Assuming someone finds a way to keep Vision functioning outside the Hex, he and Wanda are going to have a lot of work ahead if they want to rebuild. Some serious couple’s therapy may be in order. The CDC Chief Says Now is Not the Time to Lift Restrictions“Given the trends that we've seen in just the last couple of days, we can't be in a place where we're lifting restrictions right now,” Dr. Walensky said. “I would really encourage people, the CDC would really encourage people and States to not expand and release restrictions.”Fauci agreed. “We understand there is a tendency given that the deflection of the curve is down to get back to a situation where you're approaching normal, because everybody's under the stress and strain of the long duration of this, but we really have to be careful and take a look at that curve,” he explained. “The point that Dr. Walensky made is critical. If we plateau at 70,000, we are at that very precarious position that we were right before the fall surge.” “You know, we don't want to be people always looking at the dark side of things, but you want to be realistic,” he continued. “So we have to carefully look at what happens over the next week or so with those numbers before you start making the understandable need to relax on certain restrictions. So just watch it closely and be prepared to react according to what actually happens.”Andy Slavitt also issued a reminder of President Joe Biden’s small ask of the American people. “The president has asked that for a hundred days, we all do our part as a country to stop the spread of this virus while we are vaccinating the country,” he said. “And if we do that, and if we do that successfully, we will be able to open schools and businesses safely and keep them open.”He also reminded what happens when we don’t follow the recommended fundamentals: cases surge. “We've seen what happens. Florence Pugh and Morgan Freeman are set to star in the drama “A Good Person,” the next film from director Zach Braff. Braff will write and direct “A Good Person,” which stars Pugh as a woman whose life falls apart after she’s involved in a fatal accident. Years later, she forms an unlikely friendship with Freeman, who plays her would-be father-in-law and helps her lead a life worth living. “A Good Person” is being introduced to buyers at the virtual Berlin film market. Rocket Science is handling international sales, and CAA Media Finance is arranging financing and will represent the film’s domestic distribution rights. After several months of devastating surges of COVID-19, in recent weeks the numbers of infections, hospitalizations, and deaths have started to drop. However, it isn’t time to celebrate the end of the pandemic quite yet. Health experts have been predicting that new, more transmissible variants could result in another uptick of cases. Read on to find out what she had to say—and to ensure your health and the health of others, don't miss these Sure Signs You've Already Had Coronavirus. 1 Warning #1: Dr. Walensky Said Cases are “Still at a Very High Number” She started off by acknowledging the decline in cases and hospital admissions over the last month or so, with deaths declining over the last week. However, she revealed that the trend is starting to turn around. “The latest data suggests that these declines may be stalling, potentially leveling off at still a very high number,” she said, adding that the CDC considers it “a very concerning shift in the trajectory.” 2 Warning #2: Dr. Walensky Warned Cases are Increasing “The most recent seven day average of cases, approximately 66,350, is higher than the average I shared with you on Wednesday,” she continued. “In fact, cases have been increasing for the past three days compared to the prior week. And while deaths tend to fluctuate more than cases and hospital admissions, the most recent seven day average, approximately 2,000 per day, is slightly higher than the seven day average earlier in the week.” Dr. Walensky said the CDC is “watching” this “concerning data very closely to see where they will go over the next few days,” but pointed out that they are an “important” reminder “to remember where we are in the pandemic.” 3 Warning #3: Dr. Walensky Said “Now is Not the Time to Relax Restrictions” “Things are tenuous. Now is not the time to relax restrictions,” she said. “Although we've been experiencing large declines in cases in admissions over the past six weeks, these declines follow the highest peak we have experienced in the pandemic. So I want to be clear: Cases, hospital admissions and deaths all remain very high. Our estimates now indicate that B117 accounts for approximately 10% of cases in the United States up from one to 4%, a few weeks ago, and prevalence is even higher in certain areas of the country.”With the addition of new variants identified in California and New York, everyone needs to do their part to end the pandemic. “We may be done with the virus, but clearly the virus is not done with us,” she warned. “We cannot get comfortable or give in to a false sense of security that the worst of the pandemic is behind us. Not now, not when mass vaccination is so very close, when what we need to prevent, this is truly imminent. We must continue to be vigilant and committed to consistently taking the steps we work to stop the spread of COVID-19.” 5 Warning #5: Dr. Walensky Said It’s Up to Us to End the Pandemic “Where the pandemic goes from here is dependent on our collective behavior and resolve to do our part, to protect ourselves, our families and our communities. Together we have the capacity to avoid another surge in our mainstream,” she continued. “I know people are tired. They want to get back to life normal, but we're not there yet. Give us the time we need to get more vaccines into our communities and to get more people vaccinated. This is our path out. Here in the United States, over 46 million people or 14% of the population have already received at least one dose of the vaccine. And so many more of you are ready to roll up your sleeves as soon as the vaccine becomes available to you. Ta-Nehisi Coates has been tapped to write the script for a new “Superman” film for DC and Warner Bros, according to an individual with knowledge of the project. J.J. Abrams will produce under his Bad Robot shingle and Hannah Minghella will serve as producer. “To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot is an honor,” said Coates in a statement to Shadow and Act who first reported the news. “I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America’s most iconic mythic hero.” Also Read: Ratings: Supersized 'Superman & Lois' Debut Lifts The CW to Most-Watched Tuesday in 2 Years “There is a new, powerful and moving Superman story yet to be told. Two CPAC officials were heckled Friday after asking guests of the conservative conference to respect the venue’s rules and wear their masks. “I know this might sound like a little bit of a downer but we also believe in property rights and this is a private hotel and we believe in the rule of law,” said organizer Dan Schneider, standing on stage at Orlando’s Hyatt Regency. “We need to comply with the laws of this county that we’re in. A private hotel just like your house gets to set its own rules.” He tossed to planner Carly Conley, who also rambled a little before actually getting to the point: CPAC-ers needed to put their masks on. Meanwhile, Schneider tried to simplify the request as much as possible, pointing out that attendees were free to make rules and not wear masks in their own homes, but the political conference was “borrowing somebody else’s house” for the time being. CBS finished first in total viewers during primetime, with “Young Sheldon” and “B Positive” both enjoying their largest overall audiences of the season. Considering this is the first season of the Thomas Middleditch-starring “B Positive,” we can also call that one a series high in viewers. CBS, ABC and Fox tied for first in ratings, each with a 0.6 rating/4 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic. CBS was first in total viewers with an average of 4.8 million, according to preliminary numbers. ABC was second in total viewers with 4.2 million and Fox was fourth with 2.4 million. For CBS, “Young Sheldon” at 8 p.m. posted a 0.9/6 and 7.6 million viewers. At 8:30, “B Positive” drew a 0.7/4 and 5.1 million viewers. “Mom” at 9 had a 0.6/4 and 5.1 million viewers. At 9:30, “The Unicorn” got a 0.5/3 and 3.7 million viewers. “Clarice” at 10 received a 0.4/3 and 3.6 million viewers.
