For most of us, when we were at the age of two, we were probably still in our comfort zone and just starting to explore the world around us. But for Nonoka Murakata, who was born on 31 May 2018, she will be making her CD debut on 26 May, making her the youngest singer to do so.
Murakata, affectionately known as Nono-chan, participated in Japan's 35th Nursery Rhyme Children's Song Contest last October, and won the Silver prize under the children section. She is also the youngest in history to receive a Silver prize. The song she had chosen to sing is Dog Policeman.
Her performance, which was uploaded to YouTube last December, has since reached close to 15 million views. Nono-chan’s tiny figure (only 82cm in height!) and endearing gestures were enough to put smiles on many faces. But it is her impeccable singing with great pitch and sense of rhythm that really captured attention.
In fact, singers like Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, JYJ’s Jaejoong and Girl’s Generation’s Taeyeon are very supportive of Nono-chan, mentioning her on social media and TV programmes.
Nono-chan’s debut work is a mini album titled Nono-chan 2 Years Old Children’s Songs. It will feature Dog Policeman as a bonus track, and include the nursery rhymes she likes, such as Omocha No Cha Cha Cha.
King Records, who is in charge of producing Nono-chan’s album, has also uploaded a clip showing some behind-the-scenes of her recording. Nono-chan can be seen scurrying around the recording studio and wearing headphones that are way too big for her small head.
With such an achievement at the age of two, we're curious to see how far Nono-chan’s potential can stretch!
