Two exit routes ramp up for yet another Tottenham man beyond deadline after being frozen out
Hugo Lloris could reportedly make a move to either Saudi Arabia or Turkey after being frozen out at Tottenham and turning down moves within Europe.
Lloris’ form last season showed the Frenchman was beginning to decline after years of great performances. That he started to make mistakes impacting the side meant that during the summer window, new boss Ange Postecoglou decided to recruit a new goalkeeper in Guglielmo Vicario.
Not only has Lloris dropped down from the no.1 spot, but he’s not made a squad at all this season, with Fraser Forster being preferred as Vicario’s back-up at Tottenham.
He’s had the opportunity to move away, though, with interest from the likes of Nice, Lazio and Newcastle United. However, each of those routes petered out, with Lloris reportedly telling the Magpies he wouldn’t sit on the bench behind Nick Pope.
It’s also been claimed Spurs could terminate the goalkeeper’s contract, given he’s clearly not required anymore.
However, they might not need to do so, with a couple of potential exit routes still in play despite the majority of European deadlines – including England’s – now having expired.
Football Insider reports Lloris ‘could leave Tottenham for Turkey or Saudi Arabia after being frozen out’. While no sides are mentioned, the report suggests the goalkeeper ‘could see options open up’ in both countries ahead of their respective deadlines.
Turkey’s window closes on September 15 and Spurs have already made use of it still being open. Indeed, both Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele have made moves to Galatasaray since the English window closed – the former permanently.
As such, if Spurs are thinking of terminating Lloris’ contract, they may think twice, as they’ve got first-hand experience that they’re still able to ship unwanted players out despite no longer being inside a transfer window themselves.
There’s less time for a Saudi side to get a deal over the line. Indeed, the transfer window in the Arab nation closes in two days’ time (September 7) so any potentially interested side would have to move fast.
Should Spurs not manage to see the back of Lloris now, they’ll lose out on the opportunity to make a fee from him, as his contract is up next summer. With that being said, the potential of terminating his contract makes sense.
