TVB explains the use of transparent masks on "Scoop"

12 Aug – TVB Executive Sandy Yu recently had to address the criticism against the TVB programme, "Scoop", after its hosts Albert Au and Janis Chan were given see-through face masks to be used during the broadcast.

As reported on Mingpao, Sandy, who was questioned about the efficiency of the said masks, told the media recently that the masks were ordered from Japan and could prevent droplets, pollen and bacteria.

However, she stressed, it cannot stop the virus.

"We only use that mainly for the hosts to appear onscreen. It should not be used in public. Since it was inconvenient for artistes to wear masks when appearing onscreen, we made a special order for these transparent masks," she said.

Yu added that the company will continue to let hosts wear transparent masks on camera, but will also ensure that they would all use the proper face masks in public.
