TVB denies extra security at TVB Anniversary Awards

15 Jan – TVB has recently dismissed the notion that it had added extra measures to its security during the TVB Anniversary Awards.

As reported on Mingpao, earlier, it was rumoured that Hong Kong protesters were planning to cause a commotion around TVB City in Tseung Kwan O during the said event, prompting TVB to dispatch a police patrol car outside the gates and supposedly outsource a security team to guard the area.

In addition, the company also decided to forgo an open air red carpet walk this year, opting instead to set up a special tunnel-like corridor that cannot be seen from the outside.

However, when asked about the extra measures, a TVB rep denied that they received any kind of threats.

"This is just a normal measure to strengthen security," the rep added.

Hong Kong netizens - the independence supporters in particular - have been very critical of the company since the start of the mass protests last year, accusing TVB of being pro-China and therefore biased in its reporting.
