Trump's Hollywood Star of Fame Vandalized

From Cosmopolitan

Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been smashed by a man wielding a sledgehammer and pickax. Deadline, which first reported the story, captured the destruction in this photo:

Per Deadline, the vandal identified himself as James Otis and was dressed as a city construction worker. Otis said that he meant to actually remove the star, not destroy it. According to Deadline, "He said he originally intended to remove Trump’s star completely to auction it off next month in New York to raise funds for the women who have recently come forward to accuse Trump of sexually assaulting them over the decades."

The star has been vandalized several times since the real estate mogul and reality TV star announced his candidacy for president, including an incident in January, when someone spray-painted a reversed swastika over the star.

Updated 10/26 at 8:30 p.m.: James Otis has decided to speak out about his decision to destroy Donald Trump’s Walk of Fame star, confirming in a video published by TMZ that he had hoped to auction the star in order to help pay the legal fees of the women who have come forward to claim they were sexually assaulted by the Republican nominee.

"The reason I did it was because of the amount of sexual assaults that not only my own family has experienced, but the many women that Donald Trump has done this to," he said in the video. "The point of the exercise was to take the star and auction it off and take that money and distribute it to the women who have been sexually assaulted by Donald Trump."

Otis intends to turn himself in to authorities on Thursday, and told CBS he is ready to pay for the damage and serve time in jail if necessary. However, he is also ready to fight for his actions in court.
