Trump Posts Opposition Research Notes Aimed to Discredit Hillary Clinton on His Own Website

The methods by which politicians — especially presidential candidates — try to take down their opposition is usually kept tightly under wraps.

But not so with this heated presidential campaign, as while Hillary Clinton and President Obama were earning accolades at the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia, Donald Trump appears to have posted his “cheat sheet” directly to his own website.

“Trump just posted oppo notes on Clinton to his site. If you’ve seen oppo, you recognize it,” Huffington Post’s political reporter Christina Wilkie pointed out via Twitter on Wednesday night.

Political commentator Keith Olbermann was quick to agree with her, tweeting: “Fer crying out loud, @RealDonaldTrump, did you hack YOURSELF? #OrMaybePutin #Dipshit.”

The oppo notes in question included documents entitled “Syria in Chaos” and “Libya in Ruins,” along with talking points to prove that “Obamacare Is in Ruins” and “Younger Are Struggling In the Obama Economy.”

Also included in the files posted to DonaldJTrump.com are links to articles from reputable news sites such as The Washington Post, The New York Times, PolitiFact, The Associated Press and Gallup.

The term “oppo research” refers to research done by campaign organizations working against opposing candidates. It is a standard part of every campaign as operatives look through public records, court filings and old newspaper articles to try to find something scandalous or at least embarrassing about their opponent, according to GAReport.com. Once something is found, the information is leaked to a reporter or TV news type with the suggestion that “there may be a story here.”

However, it appears that Trump merely took a short cut — and leaked to the world wide web for all to see.

As Wilkie pointed out in a subsequent tweet, “Trump campaign’s notes on Obama economy. Not bad, just shouldn’t be public.”

But when does the GOP candidate do anything conventionally?
