New in town: La Petite Boulangerie – Singapore’s first bakery to offer Merveilleux, a dessert steeped in ancient tradition

La Petite Boulangerie, located within furniture brand My Selection‘s physical store in Farrer Park, has recently opened this past June 2022.

Helmed by pastry chef Celeste Teh, La Petite Boulangerie offers French bakes that are rare to come across in Singapore.

The bakery has its own demarcated area, with some tables alongside for people to sit down and enjoy their bakes. The interior is decorated in a nice shade of forest green, which causes the bakes to look more refined and the colours of the bakes to pop more.

La Petite Boulangerie offers Merveilleux – the first bakery in Singapore to offer this French dessert. Merveilleux, which means marvellous in English, is a cake that consists of two meringues encasing whipped cream.

They have put a Singaporean spin on this traditional French dessert, and have come up with flavours such as Kaya Coconut and Passionfruit Coconut Crumble.

One can purchase the Merveilleux in three different ways: one Merveilleux (S$9), a box of four mini Merveilleux (S$18.80), or a box of six mini Merveilleux (S$24.80).

They also offer Escargot (S$5.50) which is pain aux raisins, which translates to “bread with raisins”. It’s named Escargot as the pastry bears a remarkable resemblance to the snail shell.

The bakery has some Singaporean favourite flavours of the Escargot, such as Gula Melaka and Kaya Pandan Coconut.

As La Petite Boulangerie is located within My Selection, a furniture shop, customers can easily flit back and forth between choosing a nice throw pillow for the couch and getting a quick bite to satiate their hunger.
