New in town: Kaeden Cafe — Kallang’s newest no-frills Scandinavian cafe with flame-torched mentaiko prawns

·2-min read

Calling all Kallang residents: you have a new cafe in town! Kaeden Cafe, located in Aperia Mall, will be opening its doors on 6 June 2022.

Kaeden Cafe - logo of the cafe

Kaeden, which means chain in Danish, aims to link Scandinavian influences with the owners’ passion for cycling. Kaeden Cafe’s logo is a chain shaped like a bike, which is a really interesting visual.

Kaeden Cafe - interior of the cafe

Kaeden Cafe’s interior has wooden finishes, which applies to both their tables and chairs. This gives a very rustic and simple touch to the aesthetic of the cafe. Decorated with some touches of green, it almost feels like nature indoors.

Grilled Cabbage (S$12) is a salad with caesar dressing and furikake, which is a blend of bonito flakes and seaweed nori, resulting in crunchy salty seasoning. The crisp, charred cabbage paired with the creamy dressing results in an umami mouthful.

Fried Calamari (S$16) is a starter staple on most people’s table. The simple dish consists of calamari dipped in light, crispy batter and then fried. It is paired with Kaeden Cafe’s tangy homemade tartar sauce.

Chicken Karaage (S$14) is crunchy marinated fried chicken topped with addictive fried garlic and chilli oil. Sprinkled with chilli flakes, this will make to be a slightly spicy snack that pairs well with Kaeden Cafe’s craft beers.

Grilled Mentaiko Prawns (S$5 per piece) combines the best of both worlds – mentaiko and prawns. Flame-grilled succulent sea prawns are covered with mentaiko mayonnaise and torched to give a slight char and smoky finish.

Kaeden Cafe has a launch week deal – from 6 to 12 June 2022, the first 100 customers each day will enjoy a free cup of coffee with every main course purchased. All you have to do is follow them on Instagram, repost this post on your story, and show it to the crew when ordering.

The appetising food at Kaeden Cafe is definitely calling my name, so you can bet I’ll be checking the cafe out when it opens!
