New in town: Hakka Taste — Homemade Hakka yong tau foo using 62-year-old recipe from Malaysia

If there’s something we can never get enough of, it’s probably eateries with generational recipes that have been passed down for future generations to enjoy. Hakka Taste is no exception to that. Opened on 1 Oct 2022 at Block 151 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5, it promises to deliver only fresh handmade yong tau foo and noodles.

Hakka Taste originated from Batu Pahat in Malaysia. It was started by the grandfather of Hakka Taste Singapore’s owner, Fico, in 1960. Its handmade recipes have been passed down through three generations.

Hakka Taste - Yong Tau Foo

Its signature Yong Tau Foo starts at S$0.80 per piece. Most ingredients are filled with a pork and fish mixture that is made the traditional Hakka way. You can also add other ingredients such as Bak Chor (S$1), Meatball (S$0.40) and Kuey Tiaw (S$1.50) to your Yong Tau Foo for a more complete meal.

Hakka Taste also has a number of noodle sets such as the Signature Set (S$5.30) which has a bowl of Bak Chor Mee and a bowl of two Tau Kee and three meatballs. Big eaters can opt for the Premium Set (S$7) which has more meatballs and tau kee as well as an additional Tau Pok.

If you are looking for something more soup based, you can choose the Bee Hoon Soup Set or Kuey Tiaw Soup Set, both of which are priced at S$4.30. They include two tau kee and three meatballs, with your choice of noodles in a bowl of soup. Real tau kee lovers can go for the Tau Kee Platter (S$8), which has 10 pieces of tau kee.
