New in town: afterwords — Chinatown cafe with all-day brunch and ice cream from FATCAT

If you’re ever in Chinatown, take note of the newly opened cafe, afterwords, for your coffee and all-day brunch matters. It recently opened on 13 Jan 2023 at 24 Pagoda Street.

It is nestled in a convenient location, as it is flanked by both Chinatown MRT Station and Maxwell MRT Station. Co-founded by university undergrad, Ray Tay, who has had experience as a barista at Starbucks for over 3 years, afterwords has been in development since 2022.

afterwords - Everything on a Waffle

You have a variety of brunch options. For starters, the Mini Blues Surprise (S$11) has mini blueberry pancakes, a sunny-side-up, and 2 sausages with maple syrup. Next, the Everything on a Waffle (S$15) sees a combination of pandan waffles, 2 eggs (either scrambled or sunny-side-up), chicken sausage and maple syrup.

There’s also The Land Before Avocado (S$20), which is an avocado and smoked salmon combo on sourdough toast with a sunny-side-up. Those with an appetite can opt for the Breakfast of Champions (S$21) which has sourdough toast, 2 eggs cooked either scrambled or sunny-side-up, chicken sausage, tater tots, sauteed mushroom and cherry tomatoes.

Those with a sweet tooth can opt for their For The Love of French Toast (S$15), which is a coffee-infused brioche french toast with berry compote topped with almond flakes and maple syrup. You can even add a scoop of ice cream from FATCAT Ice Cream Bar for an additional S$4. The flavours include EspressoDark Chocolate and Watermelon Sorbet (+S$0.30).

Of course, it wouldn’t be a cafe without coffee and tea. It has expected options like Cappuccino (S$6) and Ripple Tea Lemonades (S$6.90). afterwords also throw a curveball, with you having the ability to challenge the barista by requesting a personalised drink of choice at a separate charge.
