Tottenham tracking coach who has made European final as Levy is desperate for Slot alternative
Having been turned down by Feyenoord boss Arne Slot, Tottenham have an alternative manager in mind who had impressed this year in Italy.
Slot had built up a fine reputation in the Eredivisie and seemed like the perfect choice for Tottenham. However, the Dutch manager recently revealed that he would be sticking with Feyenoord.
“I have heard a lot about the interest of other clubs in me,” Slot told Algemeen Dagblad.
“I’m grateful for the appreciation that this expresses, but my wish is to stay with Feyenoord. I want to continue to build on the foundations that have been laid over the past two seasons.
“I look forward to the new season at Feyenoord.”
Daniel Levy will therefore be forced to search elsewhere for a new managerial candidate. According to the latest reports, he already has someone else in mind.
As reported by Sport Witness, Levy has shortlisted Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Italiano. The report explains that he is ‘on Tottenham’s list’ and is ‘popular abroad’.
Given his success with the Italian club, the interest is no surprise. The 45-year-old has guided Fiorentina to the Europa Conference League final.
The Italian boss has been with Fiorentina since June 2021 and guided them to seventh in the league last season.
This time around in the league they have been more inconsistent as their European journey has taken priority. Fiorentina currently sit 11th in Serie A.
Across his entire managerial career, he has managed 300 matches. He boasts a 44.67% win ratio and would be an interesting option for Spurs.
Spurs have other options
Along with Italiano, Tottenham are also considering a host of other names. Levy needs to get this next managerial appointment spot on as the club currently sits in limbo.
The North London club have been linked with Fulham’s Marco Silva. However, Fulham themselves are now working on a new deal for the Portuguese boss.
“Fulham insist they are not worried about Silva and are confident that they are going to tie him down to new deal,” Graeme Bailey told TEAMtalk.
“They know West Ham are looking at alternatives to David Moyes and Silva is on their list. The Portuguese has also been talked about at Tottenham.”
Tottenham seem likely to look elsewhere for their next manager though. They have also been linked with Luis Enrique, Julian Nagelsmann and Brendan Rodgers.
Enrique would be an ambitious accusation, but he has since been linked with the Napoli job. Amid reports Luciano Spalletti could leave, the Napoli job could soon become available.
Spurs will be keen on nailing down a manager sooner rather than later. Levy will want to get going in the transfer market as their squad is in need of reshaping.
They currently sit eighth in the table and are unlikely to qualify for European football next season. In order to leapfrog Aston Villa they will need results to go their way on the final day.
