Top composer Willy Cruz passed away
20 Apr - Renowned songwriter and music producer Willy Cruz has recently passed away.
As reported on ABS-CBN News, the news of Cruz's passing was revealed by the singer's sister, Magdalena Africa, who stated that he was in a week-long coma before he took his last breath on Easter Monday.
She also expressed her wish that fans would remember Willy and his love for music and how he would glorify God through his songs.
Born Wilfredo Buencamino Cruz, Willy Cruz has composed many hit songs for stars such as Nora Aunor, Sharon Cuneta, Nonoy Zuniga, and Hajji Alejandro. Among his greatest hits include "Pangarap Na Bituin", "Sana'y Wala ng Wakas", "Kumusta Ka", and "Kahit Na".
Meanwhile, stars including Lea Salonga and Ogie Alcasid recently expressed their condolences to the family.
Salonga wrote, "Rest in God's loving arms, Willy Cruz. You have left such a legacy of amazing music to remember you by."
His last public appearance was to receive his own star at the Eastwood Walk of Fame back in December.
He was 70.
