Miss France wins 65th Miss Universe pageant

Iris Mittenaere from France won the 65th Miss Universe title on Monday (30 Jan). She beat 85 other contestants who competed in the pageant that was held in Manila, the Philippines.

The show was again hosted by US comedian Steve Harvey, who fortunately announced the right winner in this year’s pageant. Harvey made humiliating gaffe last year when he mistakenly announced Miss Colombia instead of Miss Philippines as the winner.

Mittenaere, 23, is studying to become a dentist and comes from a small town called Lille, located in Northern France.

The second runner-up spot went to Andrea Tovar, 23, from Colombia while the first runner-up went to Raquel Pelissier, 25, from Haiti.

The finalists who made it to the top six were France, Kenya, Colombia, Philippines, Thailand and Haiti.

The finalists who made it to the top nine were the USA, Thailand, France, Mexico, Kenya, Colombia, Canada, Haiti and Philippines.
