Tony Leung to play The Mandarin in MCU's "Shang Chi"

22 Jul – Award-winning Hong Kong actor Tony Leung will be a part of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) superhero movie, "Shang Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings".

As reported on On CC, the news was recently announced by Marvel Studios at the San Diego Comic Convention (SDCC), stating that "The Grandmaster" star will be playing the antagonist role, The Mandarin.

Ben Kingsley previously played a fake version of the character in "Iron Man 3".

This seems to confirm a fan theory that The Mandarin may replace Shang Chi's original villain Fu Manchu, who is also the superhero's crime lord father.

Tony's wife and manager Carina Lau took to Instagram to express her happiness over the news, writing, "Looking forward! Can't wait!"

Meanwhile, after much speculation, Marvel announced that Canadian Chinese newcomer Simu Liu will play the titular character.

"Crazy Rich Asians" star Awkwafina is also part of the cast.

The upcoming film is slated for release on 12 February 2021.
