Tony Leung learns not to be so serious all the time

19 Feb – While doing comedy can make an actor happier than acting in a melodrama, Hong Kong actor Tony Leung said that he didn't take the offer to star in "Monster Hunt 2" just for the sake of being happy.

In an interview with Mingpao recently, the actor addressed wife Carina Lau's previous statement that her upcoming comedy movie "My Rival is Son-in-law, My Lover is Son-in-law" is easier and more relaxing for her, and therefore made her happy.

The actor stated that he is unsure whether, like Carina, he felt that a comedy is easier and therefore made him happier, but admitted that there is a correlation between the two.

"As you get older, you realise that you don't have to be so serious about things. Sometimes you can joke and be silly about it. I used to be such a serious person," he said.

When asked what made him change, Tony said that nothing actually happened to make him change his views.

"It's just an understanding that you don't have to be too serious all the time, and just laugh at life," he said.

As to whether wife Carina Lau prefers the serious Tony or the funny version of him, he said that the actress prefers both.

When mentioned that Carina previously joked about her being the better actor than him, Tony responded, albeit more seriously, "I never thought who is better because each actor is different and have their own style and interpretation. We can only be compared if we play the same role."
