Tom Holland: I want to be Spider-Man for a long, long time

If Tom Holland’s and Marvel/Sony’s ambitions pan out, then we’ll get to see Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man in his sophomore, junior and senior year. He’s only 20, but he sure knows what he wants – on the Spider-Man: Homecoming set, shooting was sometimes delayed because Holland insisted on making his action scenes plausible.

In a recent interview with Empire, Holland revealed that he has pitched his own ideas about the franchise to the studio heads:

“Peter Parker is a character we see [in the comic books] as a 15-year-old boy and then as a 35-year-old man. So I have an idea of what I’d like to do, and I’ve pitched it and it’s already been taken into the boardroom. It would be really cool if it pans out, because it means I would be Spider-Man for a very long time.”

Spider-Man will also be appearing in Avengers 4, but as it stands, there are already whispers that the character rights will go back to Sony after a Homecoming sequel. But if the two movies do well and the fans clamour for more Spidey in the MCU, there’s no reason for Marvel/Sony to stop the collaboration.

Here’s hoping Holland doesn’t suffer the same fate as his predecessor Andrew Garfield, who was unceremoniously dumped after two movies and declared himself ‘heartbroken’ by the process.

Spider-Man: Homecoming opens in Singapore on July 6. Check out the latest movie trailer in the meantime.
