Tom Holland was drunk when he convinced Bob Iger to save Spider-Man

Tom Holland visited Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday to promote his upcoming film, Spies in Disguise. But Holland soon found himself talking about his role as Peter Parker in Spider-Man.

Just a few weeks earlier, Disney CEO Bob Iger was on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and claimed Holland was responsible for saving the Spider-Man partnership between Sony and Marvel. Initially Sony, who owns the rights to Spider-Man, had said that Holland would not be appearing in anymore Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films.

Holland explained that upon hearing that the studios were going their separate ways, he emailed Iger to thank him for bringing Spider-Man into the MCU. Apparently Iger was so touched by the email he called Holland back three days later.

At the time of the call, Holland was enjoying a trivia night with his family at a local pub. “I'm three pints in,” recalled Holland, [I] haven't eaten much and I get a phone call from an unknown number and I have a feeling, ‘I think this is Bob Iger?’ But I'm drunk.”

While Tom didn’t really give many details about the drunken conversation, he did admit that he was quite emotional. “I weeped,” admitted Holland. “I was really emotional, because I felt like it was all coming to an end.”

Fortunately for fans of Spider-Man and the MCU, Disney and Sony renewed their conversation about the franchise and came to an arrangement that both studios could live with.

The two companies ended their dispute and jointly announced that Marvel Studios and its president, Kevin Feige, will produce the third film in the Spider-Man: Homecoming series, with Holland in the title role.

The announcement also confirmed that Holland’s Peter Parker will appear in another “future Marvel Studios film,” too.

Spies In Disguise comes to UK cinemas on 26 December.
