Tom Hardy Shuts Down Reporter Over Sexuality Questions And It’s Awkward

Another day, another awkward press conference situation involving Tom Hardy.

His last movie junket for ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ resulted in him 'shutting down’ a reporter who made a joke about the film being 'a man’s movie’ (see the video of that incident at the bottom).

And now he’s publicly humiliated a second reporter for asking about his sexuality during a press conference at the Toronto Film Festival.

While taking questions alongside director Brian Hegeland on 'Legend’, in which he plays both 60s gangland figures Reggie Kray and his twin brother Ronnie Kray, who was homosexual, he was asked about his own sexuality.

Graeme Coleman, a reporter from the LGBT site Daily Xtra asked Hardy: “In the film, your character Ronnie is very open about his sexuality.

“But given interviews you’ve done in the past, your own sexuality seems a bit more ambiguous. Do you find it hard for celebrities to talk to media about their sexuality?”

In reply, Hardy says: “What on earth are you on about?”

Defending the question, Coleman adds: “I was referring to an interview given to Attitude magazine a few years ago.”

In the aforementioned interview in Attitude, around the release of Guy Ritchie’s ‘RocknRolla’, Hardy was indeed rather frank about such matters.

Asked if he’d had sexual experiences with other men, he said: “Of course I have. I’ve played with everything and everyone. But I’m not into men sexually. I love the form and the physicality but the gay sex bit does nothing for me.”

Hardy, who is married and expecting a baby with actress Charlotte Riley, has since said that his comments were taken out of context and 'misconstrued’.

So obviously this didn’t get Coleman off the hook.

Hardy flatly asked why Coleman was asking about him about his sexuality, then stopping the conversation with a simple 'thank you’.

It’s a tough watch. But very much worth it…
