Tom Cruise just confirmed Top Gun 2
It’s been in the works for at least the past two years, but superstar Tom Cruise has finally confirmed it: Top Gun 2 begins filming in the next year. . Speaking to Australia’s Sunrise to promote his latest movie The Mummy, Cruise was asked about the status of the sequel to the 1986 movie that made him a star. .
“It’s true, yeah it’s true. I’m going to start filming it probably in the next year. I know, it’s happening, it is definitely happening. You’re the first people that I’ve really said it [to],” he added. “This is going to happen.”
It looks like the Cruiser’s worked out his earlier concerns about whether he would be able to use actual jets for the movie, especially given that dogfighting in warfare is very much a thing of the past. But putting aside the question of whether a sequel is even necessary, the 54-year-old may well end up being the only original cast member in the sequel. Goose (Anthony Edwards) died in the first movie, his wife Carole (Meg Ryan) hasn’t had a hit movie in years, Iceman (Val Kilmer) is currently battling cancer…But our guess is that they will fill out the sequel with young, popular actors, with maybe one or two token cast members from the original. Judging by how the Ghostbusters reboot (see our review) and Alien: Covenant has turned out, we’re not getting our hopes up.
