Tokyo sightseeing cruise shows new perspectives of the city
As we eagerly look forward to Japan opening its doors to leisure travellers, did you know Tokyo has a special sightseeing cruise course called Ichinichi Yurari Tabi (one-day swaying journey)?
Operating only once a month with a trip that lasts six hours, this cruise lets you bask in unique views of Tokyo.
Starting at the Azusawa Water Bus Pier in Itabashi Ward, the cruise takes you along the Sumida River, Arakawa River and Tokyo Bay, before returning to the same pier. Its open deck lets you capture landmarks like the Tokyo Skytree, the Asahi Beer headquarters that looks like a mug of beer, and the Fuji TV headquarters that has a distinctive sphere.
The route also passes by residential areas, offering countryside-looking views of locals walking along the river banks that you’d likely only see in youthful anime or dramas. Views of modern high-rise apartments are also part of the course.
What’s special about this sightseeing trip is getting to see the impressive watergates. These gates help control the amount of water that flows into the rivers and are especially useful during flash floods. Only when you’re on a cruise can you get to see the watergate in all its glory, especially when you pass through it.
The cruise also presents lesser-seen sceneries of Tokyo’s shipping docks situated on a reclaimed island, and the Kasai Rinkai Park, which is next to the Tokyo Disneyland.
