Toddler Tries to Revive Mom From Apparent Overdose

From Cosmopolitan

After collapsing from an apparent drug overdose at a Family Dollar store in Lawrence, Massachusetts, a 36-year-old mother is now being charged with child endangerment after a customer captured video footage of the woman's 2-year-old daughter attempting to revive her.

According to Us Weekly, a store clerk quickly alerted police that the woman had passed out in the toy aisle Sunday, and paramedics arrived on the scene to revive her. While the woman claimed "she was just tired and dozed off," police told WILX-10 they found evidence of drug paraphernalia in her purse and that she likely either overdosed on "heroin or an opiate-based narcotic."

"It's very, very disturbing to see someone obviously in the matter of addiction, where it overtakes someone to the point where they're not able to take care of their child, leaves their child vulnerable," Lawrence Police Chief James Fitzpatrick said.

The child has since been taken into protective custody by the Department of Children and Families, the Eagle-Tribune reports. According to Fitzpatrick, the video will be key in charging the woman for child endangerment.
