Tom Holland’s performance as Spider-Man/Peter Parker in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ has been roundly praised as arguably the finest part of a scintillating blockbuster.

Which is even more remarkable when you consider that both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield have played the iconic superhero in five ‘Spider-Man’ films over the last 14 years.

But the torch has now firmly passed on to Tom Holland. In fact Tobey Maguire, who played the webbed wonder in Sam Raimi’s trilogy, has now taken to Instagram to endorse Holland’s performance as Spidey.

Maguire uploaded a hilarious video that depicted his version of Peter Parker responding to the debut of Tom Holland as Spider-Man in the ‘Captain America: Civil War’ trailer.

Haha seriously, who made this? @tomholland2013 good job! You are great as Spider-Man. Keep it up!

This little love in between the two Spider-Men immediately set the internet aflame. Which is unsurprising considering just how popular Tobey Maguire’s ‘Spider-Man’ films were.

Sure ‘Spider-Man 3′ was a disappointment, but ‘Spider-Man 2′ is still rightly regarded as one of the best comic-book movies of all time. Only time will tell if Tom Holland can match Tobey Maguire’s exploits as the character, though.

We’ll see if that’s the case on July 7, 2017. when we get our first real taste of his incarnation in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming.’
