Toast to Earth Day with organic champagne
22 April marks Earth Day, an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
Hot on the heels of protests that happened at the start of April 2022 – with more than 1000 scientists from 25 different countries staging protests following the release of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s new report – it seems more apt than ever that we talk about protecting the Earth. In a nutshell, the report warned that rapid and deep cuts to greenhouse gas emissions are necessary by 2025 to avoid catastrophic climate effects.
It's starting to feel a bit like the film Don't Look Up, a disaster and satiric movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. A bunch of scientists warning humanity about something that will affect their lives, but meh, we're too distracted (or powerless) to take the warnings seriously.
Art imitates life, or is it the other way round?
And because it's my bill-paying job to distract (I kid, I kid), and we're on the topic of environmentalism and Leonardo DiCaprio – I thought I'd highlight an investment of the latter. DiCaprio has developed a reputation for being an environmental activist, and has been putting his money where his values are. Which brings us to organic agriculture, specifically, organic champagne.
Enter Telmont Champagne, a sustainable champagne from France. The investment and support received from Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio will convert its entire vineyard to 100% organic agriculture by 2025 and assist its partner growers with the full conversion of their vines by 2031. Organic farming typically excludes the use of artificial chemical fertilisers, pesticides, fungicides and herbicides, so the yield are more exclusive, and possibly healthier without all the chemicals in the raw ingredients (don't quote me).

The Telmont Vinothèque 2012: A vintage available exclusively in Singapore at Tippling Club, imparting stunning richness and a glorious golden colour with notes of buttered toast, almond croissant, ripe pear, fresh grapefruit, vanilla, and dried fruit.

As part of Telmont Champagne’s In the Name of Mother Nature project, the champagne brand also announced the launch of a pioneering experiment to reduce the weight of its glass bottles to 800 grams, resulting in better energy savings and environmental benefits.
