Tin Kai Man wants to initiate fundraiser for Lee Kin Yan

13 Jul – Tin Kai Man is planning to initiate a fundraiser for actor friend Lee Kin Yan, who was revealed to have been left partially paralysed following a stroke.

As reported on Mingpao, the actor who is also the incumbent president of the Federation of Hong Kong Film Workers, shared that the "Hail the Judge" actor was in a sauna in Shenzhen in September last year when he suffered a stroke that left him paralysed on the right side.

"He was rushed to the hospital soon after. After his surgery was completed, he applied to be sent back to Hong Kong for medical treatment," he said.

Lee was discharged from the hospital at the end of the year and has been recuperating and doing physical therapy at home since then.

"I visited him when he was in the hospital. He recognised me. His body and limbs were not flexible, but he could talk though his speech was sometimes slurred. I also arranged a few friends to go and see him and he was very happy. We haven't seen each other since the pandemic, but his wife gave all the updates about him," he said.

When asked about rumours that Lee's having financial problem because of his condition, Tin admitted that someone had proposed to help the actor raise money.

"But we will respect Lee and his family's decision on this. Physical therapy is expensive and due to the pandemic, there was no follow-up to the projects in mainland China. I will call him to communicate about this," he said.

Lee Kin Yan came to showbiz at the introduction of his school mate Stephen Chow, and went on appearing in many of the actor's films including "God of Cookery", "King of Comedy", and "Flirting Scholar" - often playing the same cross-dressing character.
