Timothee Chalamet divided fans with his understated suit at the 2020 Academy Awards on Sunday night.
The Little Women actor stepped out at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles for the star-studded ceremony, where he served as a presenter.
Timothee selected a Prada zip-up blazer and matching trousers made of recycled nylon, which he topped off with a vintage Cartier brooch, for the night. However, many of his online followers were unimpressed, with some claiming the outfit and his slicked-bask hairstyle made him resemble a "gas station manager".
"Congrats Timothee Chalamet for his promotion to gas station manager," one user wrote, while another commented, "This is so insulting. I know Timothee Chalamet is not nominated but it is wrong to make him do valet parking."
A third added: "I'm sorry but Timothee Chalamet looks like a security guard on the red carpet tonight. Man wore a zip-up jacket."
Yet, other fans praised the 24-year-old for rejecting the classic tuxedo.
"Timothee Chalamet is literally an icon, because (who else can) go to the red carpet wearing a jacket and still look stunning?" they asked.
And in spite of the response to his attire, Timothee ended up having one of the most memorable moments on the red carpet, with the cameras capturing the moment he photobombed Margot Robbie's entrance to the event.
Meanwhile, other celebrities to hit headlines with their controversial style choices included Blac Chyna, who sported a revealing Dona Matoshi number, Sandra Oh, who opted for an Elie Saab gown with huge sleeves, and Kristen Wiig, who chose a bright red Valentino dress with ruffles down the sides.
