Tim Roth Is Creepily Unrecognisable As Serial Killer John Christie

Tim Roth looks seriously creepy in his new role – playing the infamous serial murderer John Christie in a retelling of his horrifying killing spree.

Bald and sporting Christie’s round glasses, he was snapped shooting scenes in Glasgow, the handsome West End of which is being used to stand in for 1940s Notting Hill.

The 54-year-old star – looking considerably older here – will find some rather substantial shoes to fill.

Famously, Richard Attenborough played Christie in the spine-chilling classic ‘10 Rillington Place’ back in 1971, named after the scene of the killer’s horrific crimes, starring alongside John Hurt and Judy Geeson.

Christie murdered at least eight women – including his wife Ethel – hiding some of the bodies at his flat in west London.

He was only tried for the murder of his wife, not his other victims, and pleaded insanity.

The plea was rejected by the jury and he was hanged at Pentonville Prison in 1953 by the renowned hangman Albert Pierrepoint.

The BBC drama will be told in three parts, with Roth starring alongside 'Minority Report’ star Samantha Morton as his wife Ethel, and Nico Mirallegro and Jodie Comer as Christie’s neighbours Timothy and Beryl Evans.

The Evans were drawn into Christie’s web of murder, Timothy being convicted and hanged for the murder of his wife and infant child Geraldine, when they were actually the crimes of Christie.

Evans’ execution contributed to the abolition of capital punishment in Britain.

The drama’s writers Ed Whitmore and Tracey Malone said: “This is a story you just can’t look away from: an unlikely serial killer who orchestrated a devastating miscarriage of justice.

“It has drawn us in at every turn and has attracted an incredibly exciting level of talent who are as committed as we are to bringing it to life.”
