Tiffany Haddish and Will Arnett don't want their 'inappropriate Lego Movie 2 jokes' to get out (exclusive)

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part is part of one of the funniest comedy franchises going and that’s somewhat to do with the voice actors it hires.

Will Arnett and Tiffany Haddish are two of the brilliant comedy stars to lend their vocal cords to the animated series – Arnett is a Lego Movie vet as Batman and Haddish is a new addition as Queen Watevra Wa-Nabi – but there are a lot of jokes they made recording their parts that they do not want to get out.

“There were a lot of versions of the jokes that are in there that we recorded that weren’t appropriate for the movie,” Arnett said. “Hours of inappropriate jokes that I’ve made over the years that I hope somebody has burned.

“I made a lot of inappropriate jokes too and I know it would cause me a lot of problems,” Haddish added.

“Because they’d be like, ‘hey this is a kid’s movie and you’re a maniac,'” he offered.

“And even if they made an adult movie version of it it would cause us a lot of problems,” she continued.

Their characters’ storylines are tied together after Batman is kidnapped and transported to Queen Watevra Wa-Nabi’s domain and they even get their very own musical number called “Gotham City Guys.”

According to Haddish, the version in the film is different from what she originally recorded.

“There was an original version to the ‘Gotham City Guys’ song that I really liked better,” the actress recalled. “I liked both of them a lot but I liked the other one better because I got to use more vocal range, but then it went with more of the Reggaeton version.”

Haddish and Arnett have more in common than The Lego Movie 2, though, as they both star in Netflix adult animated series from the same creative team.

He famously voices the titular character in BoJack Horseman, which he says will return “sometime this year,” while she is voicing Tuca, a care-free toucan in Lisa Hanawalt’s new series Tuca & Bertie.

Ali Wong voices Bertie, an anxious, daydreaming songbird, in the show about two 30-year-old bird-women who live in the same apartment building.

Tuca & Bertie is coming out very soon, I think in May,” Haddish said before confirming she had finished recording her part for the series.

“I’m quick, things are done, I mean they have the paint,” she added. “It has its dark moments but its also on the level that they’re like a female Dumb and Dumber.

When asked if there might be a BoJack crossover event, Haddish said “I offered him maybe a guest star role we might let him guest star.”

We’ll see how they do,” Arnett joked. “We’ll see how it is.”

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part is in cinemas Friday, 8 February
