Thrilling new trailer for Sam Mendes' World War One movie '1917' lands
The first full trailer for Sam Mendes' new World War One drama 1917 has landed, and it's breathless, thrilling and horrifying in equal measure.
Set in the trenches of northern France, it finds two young soldiers, Schofield and Blake, played by George MacKay and Game of Thrones star Dean-Charles Chapman, given the seemingly impossible mission to cross enemy lines to deliver a message that will prevent the slaughter of thousands of British soldiers in an ambush.
One of those soldiers will be Blake's own brother.
It's Mendes' first movie since 2015's Spectre, his second Bond movie, and is based on a story he was told by his grandfather Alfred Mendes, the novelist. It was revealed earlier this week that the film will take place over one long continuous seamless take.

In a new featurette (watch it below), Sam Mendes revealed: “From the very beginning, I felt this movie should be told in real time… Every step of the journey, breathing every breath with these men felt integral”.
The film’s Oscar-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins added that the film is not to be missed in cinemas: “Until you see it on a screen, you don’t realise how immersive it really is.”
Bond alumnus Andrew Scott features among the cast, as does another Game of Thrones star Richard Madden, alongside Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch and Daniel Mays.
DOP Deakins has long worked with the likes of the Coen Brothers, and previously with Mendes on Skyfall in 2012, before he finally won the Oscar for best cinematography in 2018 for Blade Runner 2049 after 14 nominations.
1917 is set for release across the UK on 10 January, 2020.
