Budget shops now have a new competitor: Threeppy, whose name is a mash-up of its tagline, “300 and happy.” The store is Daiso’s “premium” concept, and its first Southeast Asian outlet just opened this month at the newly revamped Funan. But if you’re expecting rows upon rows of cheap and chic goods, you may be a tad disappointed at the outlet, which is tiny and features price tags that spike quite a bit higher than $2.
In Japan, Threeppy’s items are sold at 300 yen each, which is less than S$4. However, the products here mostly go for S$5.80, with some that can set you back S$8.80 or even S$15.80. It’s not crazy expensive by any means, but when you compare it to Daiso, it’s certainly as fancy as its upscale name suggests. More comparable to Miniso or even Don Don Donki’s homeware section, we’d say, but with a smaller selection that doesn’t come with cartoon character tie-ups (if you’re into that sort of thing).
The hot pink sign is of the same hue as Daiso’s, and inside, it’s similarly stocked. Shelves of $5.80 rings, earrings, necklaces, and key chains welcome you with gleaming arms, although there are only a total of three aisles for you to wander through. At the beauty corner, nail polish bottles, eye masks, compact mirrors, and makeup brush sets go for $5.80, alongside accessories like belts, caps, and sunglasses.
In Daiso’s typical cutesy style, the $5.80 range consists of hats with animal-like “ears”, doggo cushions, “remake sheets” that you can stick on your walls for brick or wood effects, and animal-hooded towels. Oh, and right at the back of the store is an entire wall of plushies ($5.80-$15.80) in the shape of bears, cats, penguins, rabbits, and more.
Also hitting the price ceiling at $15.80 are blankets, sleeping mats, and floor pads. Meanwhile, in the kitchen corner, $5.80 will get you patterned chopsticks, aprons, cutlery, ladles, plates, and wooden boards.
Other random items found in the store include solar-powered garden light glasses, footwear that looks a lot like Crocs, quick-drying gloves, rain ponchos, umbrellas, backpacks, phone cases, USB cables, and aroma mists.
With all that said, if you’re got a couple minutes in Funan to kill, or if you’re desperate for something to save you from a sudden downpour, pop in to Threeppy for a look. Otherwise, you’ll probably get more bang for your buck at Daiso.
Threeppy by Daiso is at #B1-17 Funan, 107 North Bridge Rd.
