From Harper's BAZAAR

We've seen perfumes with bottles shaped like kittens (Katy Perry's aptly-named Meow). We've seen luxury perfume ads starring kittens (so cute, Miu Miu). But we've never encountered a perfume that was intended to smell like kittens-that is, until Demeter Fragrance Library decided to drop their latest scent, Kitten Fur.

So what does kitten fur (the real kind) smell like? As a self-proclaimed crazy cat mom, I can only speak for my own feline Maddie. Her fur after a long nap smells warm and sweet-like fresh-baked bread. I got my hands on a bottle, and while it does smell warm, it gets there with a heavy dose of vanilla and maybe a little musk. It's reminiscent of Bath & Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar, but a less cloying version. "After 15 years of effort, Demeter has captured the olfactory essence of the warmth and comfort of that purrfect spot, just behind a kitten's neck," reads a statement from the brand. I would argue that the belly, not the neck, is the prime kitten-smell spot. But that's neither here nor there. The perfume is actually quite delicious-maybe even a little sexy-but we imagine you wouldn't want to answer the "what fragrance are you wearing?" question should someone inquire.

Is this weird, and perhaps a little nauseating? Absolutely. But loving the scent of a cat is not unlike loving the scent of a newborn baby. And guess what? Demeter Fragrance Library has a scent for that too, called New Baby. The brand's whole shtick is to create singular fragrances that evoke scent memories, like Dirt, Snow, and Vanilla Ice Cream. So even if you're a die-hard dog person, there's probably another Demeter scent out there for you.
