The Rock Will Appear In Untitled Disney Theme Park Ride Movie

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is on somewhat of a role with the mega bucks his movies take at the box office, and it seems Disney have caught wind of his man of the moment status by offering him another role.

As well as appearing in the upcoming animated musical ‘Moana’, the former WWE wrestler will star in a currently untitled project from Disney that’ll be based on their popular Jungle Cruise ride.

Disney’s other ride-turned-movie was the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ one - you may have heard of it - which is awaiting the release of its fifth Johnny Depp-starring instalment in 2017, having made almost $4 billion worldwide.

This has been a project in the making since 2004, where Tom Hanks and Tim Allen were previously reported to have been in line to star.

Likely to be a period piece, it’s suggested that it could strongly take inspiration from John Huston’s 1951 classic ‘The African Queen’.

However, considering the project has been ‘in the works’ for so long, there’s absolutely no hint as to its plot, additional stars, or definite time it’s set.

‘Focus’ directing and writing duo John Requa and Glenn Ficarra are penning the script for this, but it’s so early in its life, it’s anyone’s guess what we will get as an end product.

With The Rock dashing between kid-friendly (’Tooth Fairy’, ‘Race to Witch Mountain’ - incidentally both Disney titles) and bone-crunching, more mature actioners (the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise, ‘San Andreas’) we may see a nice blend of the two: something with kick-ass action and the comedic wit he’s displayed in ‘The Other Guys’ and ‘Pain & Gain’, hopefully.
