The New Magnificent Seven Poster Looks Awfully Familiar

A new poster for the upcoming remake of classic western ‘The Magnificent seven’ has been released, and it certainly looks a little familiar.

The film’s titular septet - played by Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D'Onofrio, Byung-Hun Lee, Martin Sensmeier and Manuel Garcia-Rulfi - are front and centre on the poster.

If it strikes you as familiar, that might be because of the aesthetic choice - which bears a striking resemblance to the posters for Quentin Tarantino’s 'The Hateful Eight’.

We’ve embedded one of those posters below so you can compare the two.

There’s no wrong-doing here; films borrow from films all the time (this film is a remake of a remake of 'Seven Samurai’ after all) but it’s a little on the nose just shy of sevent months after Tarantino’s latest was released in cinemas.

“With the sleepy town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate towns people employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns,” reads an official synopsis.

“As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.”

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the remake is set for release on 23 September 2016.
