'The Mandalorian' season 2 trailer: Baby Yoda returns

Disney+ has finally launched the first trailer for the second season of its hit Star Wars show The Mandalorian.

Coming to Disney’s premium streaming service on 30 October, The Mandalorian S2 will continue the adventures of masked bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and The Child (informally known as Baby Yoda) – the mysterious Yoda-like infant he has been tasked with protecting. Hot on their trail is the remnants of the Empire, led by the nefarious governor-turned-warlord Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito).

As revealed in the final chapter of the first season, Gideon possesses a Darksaber, a black-bladed laser sword with a rich history in Star Wars lore.

The trailer shows Din Djarin embarking on his mission to deliver The Child to the Jedi. The show is set after the events of 1983’s Star Wars: Episode V - Return of the Jedi, but before 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Here’s the official synopsis: The Mandalorian and the Child continue their journey, facing enemies and rallying allies as they make their way through a dangerous galaxy in the tumultuous era after the collapse of the Galactic Empire.

“I’ll be going toe-to-toe with Mando,” Giancarlo Esposito recently told EW. “It’s an iconic battle. I want to disarm him mentally as well. Who knows? Maybe there’s an opportunity to get him to fight some battles for me. You may think I’m a villain, but I’m trying to harness some energy and some powers for a path that could be best for all. You'll get to see him be somewhat diplomatic and more of a manipulator."

Showrunner Jon Favreau, who also writes The Mandalorian, says the second season will include episodes that focus on other characters beyond Djarin.

“As we introduce other characters, there are opportunities to follow different storylines,” Favreau also told EW. “The world was really captivated by Game of Thrones and how that evolved as the characters followed different storylines — that's very appealing to me as an audience member.”
