The Great Singapore Sale revamps as eGSS 2020, combining online retail with virtual activities

SINGAPORE - JUNE 20: Shoppers wearing protective masks wait to enter a Victoria's Secret boutique at Orchard Road on June 20, 2020 in Singapore. From June 19, Singapore started to further ease the coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions by allowing social gatherings up to five people, re-opening of retail outlets and dining in at food and beverage outlets, subjected to safe distancing. Parks, beaches, sports amenities and public facilities in the housing estates will also reopen. However, large scale events, religious congregations, libraries, galleries and theatres will remain closed. (Photo by Suhaimi Abdullah/Getty Images)

Singapore Retailers Association (SRA) announced today (23 July) that the national sales event, the ‘Great Singapore Sale’, will return this year, running from 9 September to 10 October 2020.

Themed ‘eGSS: Shop. Win. Experience’, the campaign will combine online retail with virtual activities that shoppers can enjoy, to drive local consumption with a diverse shopping experience both offline and online.

The eGSS event happens to be part of the local nine-month long SingapoRediscovers campaign, which encourages locals to discover a different side of Singapore through hidden gems, as well as value-for-money experiences and promotions, announced by Minister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing yesterday.

R Dhinakaran, President of SRA, said, “This year’s strategic direction of eGSS 2020 takes into account the circumstances in which the retail industry is operating in.

“Amid the pandemic, agility and adaptability are key drivers and this drove SRA to organise eGSS: Shop.Win.Experience as a means to provide retailers, F&B and tourism operators a unified marketing platform to drive local consumption and help accelerate digitalisation as a channel to engage our millennial customers and win new shoppers.”

Some of the highlights that shoppers can look forward to are:
