'The Goldfinch' trailer: Ansel Elgort and Nicole Kidman star in adaptation of Pulitzer Prize-winner
Warner Bros. has dropped the first trailer for The Goldfinch, a starry adaptation of Donna Tartt’s bestselling 2013 page turner that won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction.

Directed by BAFTA-winner John Crowley (Brooklyn), the film features a multigenerational cast led by Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver) as Theo Decker and Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman (The Hours, Big Little Lies) as Mrs. Barbour.
Here’s the official synopsis: Theodore “Theo” Decker was 13 years old when his mother was killed in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The tragedy changes the course of his life, sending him on a stirring odyssey of grief and guilt, reinvention and redemption, and even love. Through it all, he holds on to one tangible piece of hope from that terrible day... a painting of a tiny bird chained to its perch. The Goldfinch.

Coming to UK cinemas on 27 September, the film of The Goldfinch is likely to attract fans of the source book, but director John Crowley says some of the book’s near-800 page story has been cut for sake of brevity.
“The initial decision to not follow the linear structure of the book, rather to intercut a little more cinematically, a little more impressionistically, that was the thing that liberated us and allowed us to deal with time passing and leave out chunks of the book which though beautiful and wonderful in their intentional setting were perhaps less dramatic,” Crowley told Yahoo.
The Goldfinch will be released nationwide on 27 September, 2019 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
