Brace yourselves, "Tenet's" release in cinemas might be postponed again.

15 Jul – "Tenet", one of the highly anticipated movies of 2020, might just keep getting delayed that it'll soon turn into one of the highly anticipated movies of next year instead.

The plan was to release it in North American cinemas this 12 August, after it was moved from its previous 31 July and 17 July release dates.

However, with cinemas in California being ordered to shut down again by governor Gavin Newsom, the possibility of "Tenet" being able to hit the big screen by next month is dropping significantly.

Cinemas in the state's Los Angeles county are among the major contributors to a higher box office collection, without them "Tenet's" box office figures might suffer.

As per Deadline's report, the re-closure of cinemas was ordered by the governor after California officials revealed that the number of coronavirus-related deaths in the state had passed 7,000 and the governor himself stated on Monday that over the past 24 hours, there have been 8,358 new cases reported in the state.

There is no end date given for the order at the moment.

Another major box office contributor, New York cinemas, are also still closed. Without cinemas in both New York and L.A., distributors are understandably reluctant to offer any new releases.

Another reason for the reluctance is the fact that cinemas worldwide remain closed, including China, the second-largest film market in the world after the US.

Even in countries where cinemas are gradually reopening, the attendance does not show promising numbers that would encourage new releases from Hollywood. In fact, in Hong Kong, cinemas have once again been ordered to close due to a third wave of the coronavirus outbreak.

Factoring these in, cinephiles who have been looking forward to Christopher Nolan's latest offering will have to brace themselves for a delay.

"Tenet", with a newly-revealed runtime of 149 minutes and 59 seconds (according to The Independent's report based on Korean ratings board), sees John David Washington leading a star-studded cast that includes Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Kenneth Branagh, Michael Caine and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
